AI slides for English teachers works best as a teacher-controlled draft process: define the learning goal, give the tool useful context, inspect every suggestion and rewrite the result for real English learners. AI can save repetitive preparation time, but the teacher remains responsible for accuracy, privacy, tone and the final classroom decision.
Key takeaways
AI slides for English teachers are draft presentation sequences created from a lesson goal, learner level, time limit and interaction plan. The useful output is not a beautiful deck with twenty-seven transitions. It is a clear sequence that models language, gives learners a chance to notice and practise, and leaves room for human explanation and conversation.
Tell the tool the language aim, learner age, approximate level, class length, slide limit and success check. Ask for one teacher note and one learner-facing slide outline. Then inspect examples, images, facts, cultural references, readability and copyright. A slide is a prompt for learning, not the lesson itself.
| Stage | Teacher decision | AI can draft | Human quality gate |
|---|---|---|---|
| Goal | What should learners do by the end? | Possible objective wording | Is the goal observable? |
| Sequence | How will learners notice, practise and use language? | Slide order | Is interaction built in? |
| Examples | Which phrases and contexts fit? | Model sentences | Are they accurate and natural? |
| Support | What helps this level? | Glossary and prompts | Does support reduce or create overload? |
| Practice | Where do learners speak, write or decide? | Activity instructions | Can learners complete it in time? |
| Review | How will you know learning happened? | Exit check | Does evidence match the goal? |
Data note: Use the output as a draft. A teacher should be able to explain why every slide is present.
Include the audience, context, language aim, time, interaction pattern, number of slides and constraints. Ask for a warm-up, model, guided practice, pair task and exit check rather than “make a presentation about travel”. For a B1 lesson on polite requests, specify the situation, useful phrases, one controlled practice task and one role-play condition.
Ask for a text-only outline first. It is easier to catch a weak sequence before you spend time on design. Request alternatives for examples, but choose the one that fits your learners and avoids unnecessary stereotypes. If the topic needs a current fact, verify it with an official source instead of trusting a generated citation.
Check language accuracy, level, amount of text, contrast, image rights, cultural assumptions and whether the slides leave enough time for learners to act. Read every example aloud. AI may produce a sentence that is grammatically possible but oddly formal, or a “simple” definition with three new words hiding inside it.
Use one idea per slide where possible and make instructions visible. If learners need to speak, show the prompt, model one turn and say how long they have. A slide that says “Discuss” without a question, outcome or time limit is not a task. It is a polite shrug in widescreen.
| Review area | Question | Common fix |
|---|---|---|
| Objective | Does the slide serve the learning goal? | Delete decorative content |
| Language | Would a real speaker use this phrase here? | Replace with verified examples |
| Level | Can learners understand the instructions? | Shorten and add a model |
| Interaction | Where do learners produce language? | Add pair or individual turns |
| Accessibility | Can learners read and hear it? | Improve contrast, size and pacing |
| Copyright | Are images and text cleared? | Use licensed or original materials |
Data note: The checklist supports teacher review and does not guarantee an accessible presentation.
Keep the shared goal and vary the support. Ask for a core prompt, a sentence frame and an extension question. Stronger learners can justify a choice or add a follow-up; learners who need support can use a word bank, model or reduced choice. Do not label slides publicly by ability if that would embarrass students. Differentiation should open a route into the same task.
Use slides to reduce cognitive load, not to put the entire textbook on the wall. A short prompt and a visible example leave attention for listening, speaking and feedback. If the deck reaches thirty slides, the solution is usually a smaller lesson, not a faster clicker finger.

| Slide purpose | Learner action | Approximate time | Teacher check |
|---|---|---|---|
| Welcome and goal | Predict or connect to the topic | 3 minutes | Can learners state the goal? |
| Model | Notice useful language | 7 minutes | Do learners identify the pattern? |
| Guided practice | Complete or rehearse | 10 minutes | Which support is needed? |
| Communicative task | Use language with a partner | 15 minutes | Are learners transferring it? |
| Extension | Change audience or condition | 8 minutes | Can learners adapt? |
| Exit check | Show one thing learned | 5 minutes | What should come next? |
Data note: Timing is an illustrative planning model. Adapt it to the class, platform and learners.

AI in teaching
A recognized TEFL qualification can give you practical language for applications and a framework for planning. It does not guarantee a job, a visa or a fully booked calendar. Employers still look at the role, age group, experience and legal status. Check the qualification requirement in the actual advert, and compare course hours, assessment, tutor access and practical teaching before enrolling.
Use your training as evidence, not decoration. Save lesson plans, feedback and a short reflection on how you changed an activity for a different level. Those examples make an interview more specific and help you notice your own progress. The first week may still be chaos, but at least it will be organized chaos.
This small process keeps the search moving without turning it into an all-night spreadsheet project. You are looking for a defensible next step, not a perfect life decision delivered by Friday afternoon.
Start with the role, not the most exciting photograph attached to it. Read the employer’s full advert and write down the learner age, class size, teaching hours, preparation expectation, contract length, location and payment method. If a detail is missing, treat it as a question. A vague advert can still be legitimate, but it deserves a slower reply than a clear one.
Next, check the official rule that sits behind the job. For UK work, the GOV.UK right-to-work guidance explains what British and Irish citizens and other applicants use to prove permission. For EU mobility, EURES is a sensible place to understand job-search and cross-border information. For English-language assistantships, the British Council program page is more useful than a social post repeating last year’s deadline.
The first month is a mixture of teaching, administration and small surprises. You may be planning lessons while learning a new attendance system, finding the photocopier and discovering that the “quiet staff room” is an optimistic theory. Build a repeatable routine: check the register, set one language aim, model the task, monitor learners, and leave five minutes for a recap.
Keep a simple record of what worked. Note the level, task, timing, common errors and one adjustment for next time. This turns an uncertain first week into evidence you can use in an interview or development conversation. It also stops you reinventing Tuesday’s vocabulary activity at 7:45 on Wednesday morning.
One of our graduates described their first placement as “three jobs at once” until they separated lesson preparation from general settling-in. That is the useful lesson: you do not need perfect confidence before you begin, but you do need a system that protects your energy.
A good advert gives you enough information to decide whether to ask more questions. It names the employer, identifies the learners, explains the paid hours and states the application route. A risky advert leans on urgency, asks for unexplained fees, promises unusually high earnings without a timetable, or avoids telling you who legally employs you.
Never send a passport scan, bank details or payment simply because a recruiter says the opportunity will disappear today. Check the school’s own domain, request a written contract and search for independent evidence. If a recruiter will not answer basic questions about pay, cancellation rules or work permission, that is an answer in itself.
Use a short, readable teaching CV. Put your qualification, relevant degree or experience, learner age groups, availability and location near the top. Add two or three bullets showing what you can do in a classroom: plan a communicative lesson, adapt a reading text, give useful feedback, or manage a mixed-level activity. “Hard-working” is fine, but a concrete example works harder.
Prepare a brief introduction that sounds like a person rather than a brochure. Explain who you want to teach, why the role fits your next step and what support you would need. If a demo lesson is requested, choose a modest aim and show interaction. A short lesson with one clear outcome is more convincing than a grand tour of every grammar point known to humanity.
Budget for the quiet weeks. Include training, travel, deposits, transport, internet backup, police checks where required, insurance, tax advice and the possibility that your first timetable is lighter than advertised. Separate gross pay from the amount that reaches your account. If your plan only works when every available hour is booked, it needs more margin.
Set a weekly limit for unpaid preparation and keep one evening free. Teaching abroad or online can be socially rich, but it can also make work follow you into dinner if every conversation becomes a lesson plan. A sustainable schedule is not laziness; it is what lets you stay patient when the classroom is lively and the printer chooses rebellion.
It can draft an outline and examples, but the teacher must check the objective, level, accuracy, accessibility, copyright and interaction. Use AI for a starting sequence, then remove anything that does not help learners do the target task.
Give the learner level, age, language aim, context, class length, slide limit, interaction pattern and success check. Add constraints such as plain language, accessible design and no invented facts.
There is no universal number. Use enough slides to support the stages and interaction, not one slide for every minute. A short deck with clear prompts is often more useful than a crowded presentation.
Read them aloud, check meaning and register, verify current facts, inspect cultural assumptions and ask whether learners can understand the instructions. Replace awkward or unverified examples before class.
Yes, AI can draft shared tasks with sentence frames, word banks and extension prompts. The teacher decides which support is appropriate and ensures that differentiation does not become public labelling.
Use the free tefl.ai lesson plan generator to draft the objective, stages, prompts and checks. Convert only the useful parts into slides, then review the deck as the teacher responsible for learning.
The past simple is the English verb form used for an action or state completed at a finished time in the past. Most verbs form it by adding -ed, while a closed set of common verbs change their form instead. It is the ordinary narrative form of English and the first past form most learners meet.
The present perfect is the English verb form made with have or has plus a past participle, used to link a past action to the present moment. It covers experience up to now, a situation that began in the past and still continues, and a past event whose result matters now. It never takes a finished time reference.
