If you’ve spent any time in TEFL Facebook groups or subreddits, you’ve probably seen someone mention TeflToday: a small, teacher-built AI platform out of Spain, priced at just €6 a month. It’s the kind of product that gets a lot of “wait, is this legit?” comments, mostly because indie tools built by an actual classroom teacher are rarer than they should be in this space.
Short answer: yes, it’s legit. We haven’t paid for the premium tier ourselves, so this isn’t a hands-on review of how well each tool performs day to day. What we can do is walk you through exactly what €6 a month buys you, who it’s genuinely built for, and where our own free tools at tefl.ai cover similar ground without an account or a card number.
Here’s the table to bookmark. It lines up TeflToday’s premium tools against the closest free tefl.ai equivalent, so you can see at a glance where the overlap actually is.

TeflToday says it’s built by “a working TEFL teacher in Spain with over 10 years of experience,” and the product itself backs that framing up: it reads like something designed around a real weekly workload rather than a generic AI wrapper bolted onto a landing page. For €6 a month, cancel anytime, you get eight premium tools: an ESL Lesson Plan Generator that works from a topic or a YouTube video, an AI Writing CEFR Grader that scores student writing from A1 to C2 with grammar, vocabulary, and collocation feedback, a Content Planner, Cambridge Use of English and Cambridge Speaking Exam practice tools, a TEFL Essay Generator, a Phrasal Verbs Master with Spanish translations for B2/C1 learners, and a gamified Quest English Adventure tool.
Two things are free regardless of subscription: a C1 grammar resource built around what TeflToday calls the “C.I.P.R.E.S. method,” with 60 bilingual English-Spanish examples across six grammar categories, and an English level test that places students from A1 to C2 with instant results.
TeflToday says its tools reduce lesson prep and marking time by up to 85 percent, and describes itself as CEFR-aligned across A1-C2 and built with Cambridge exam formats in mind. We haven’t tested the premium tier ourselves, so we can’t confirm those numbers firsthand. Treat them as the vendor’s own claim, not an independently verified result, and see what the tools actually produce for your own classes before you build a term’s planning around any single figure.
The core difference between the two isn’t really features, it’s the account-and-payment layer. Here’s how that breaks down.
| TeflToday | tefl.ai | |
|---|---|---|
| Price | €6/month for premium tools, cancel anytime | Free |
| Account required | Yes, for premium tools | No account needed for core tools |
| Free tier | 2 resources (C1 grammar guide, level test) | Full core toolset |
| Built by | Ian L. Evans, TEFL teacher (Spain) | tefl.ai team |
| Cambridge exam prep | Yes, dedicated tools | Not a dedicated feature |
| Spanish-bilingual materials | Yes (phrasal verbs, grammar guide) | Not a dedicated feature |
If your students are sitting Cambridge exams, or you want everything (planning, grading, exam prep, gamified practice) inside one paid account you don’t have to think about, TeflToday’s €6 a month is a fair price for a real teacher-built platform. If you mostly need a quick lesson plan, a materials rewrite, or an IELTS band estimate without creating an account or reaching for a card, start with the free tools below and see how far they get you before you consider paying for anything.
| What you need | Try this first |
|---|---|
| A lesson plan from a topic, fast, no sign-up | tefl.ai Lesson Plan Generator |
| Rewriting a text for a different level | tefl.ai AI Materials Adaptor |
| Estimating an IELTS writing band | tefl.ai IELTS Writing Band Estimator |
| Estimating an IELTS speaking band | tefl.ai IELTS Speaking Band Estimator |
| Cambridge exam-specific practice for students | TeflToday’s Cambridge Use of English and Speaking tools |
| Phrasal verbs practice with Spanish translations | TeflToday’s Phrasal Verbs Master |
| Building your own TEFL resume or CV | tefl.ai CV and Cover Letter Generator |
Based on the public site, TeflToday looks best suited to teachers who work with Spanish-speaking students, given the bilingual grammar and phrasal verbs materials, and to anyone regularly prepping students for Cambridge exams, since two of the eight premium tools are built specifically around that format. If you fall into either camp and want it all living in one account, €6 a month, cancel anytime, is genuinely reasonable, less than the price of a coffee and a pastry most places.
Where it makes less sense is if your teaching is general conversation classes, exam-agnostic business English, or online one-to-one work where you don’t need a gamified adventure tool or Cambridge-specific practice. In that case, the free tools that overlap with TeflToday’s core planning and grading functions will probably cover what you need without adding a recurring charge, however small.
It’s also worth thinking about workflow, not just features. TeflToday’s pitch is a single account where lesson planning, grading, and exam prep all live together, so you’re not juggling five different browser tabs and five different logins. That kind of consolidation has real value once a term gets busy. The tradeoff is that you’re committing to one vendor’s way of doing things across your whole workflow, whereas picking free tools individually means you can swap out any single piece the moment something better comes along, without losing anything you’ve already paid for.
One more honest note: because we haven’t run our own classes through TeflToday’s premium tier, we can’t tell you how the AI Writing CEFR Grader handles a genuinely messy piece of B1 student writing, or whether the Content Planner’s scheduling actually saves the time it promises once you’re three weeks into a busy term. That’s a gap between what a homepage says and what a real Tuesday afternoon of marking looks like, and it’s true of any tool review written from the outside, ours included. If you’re on the fence, the €6 price point is low enough that trying it for one billing cycle and canceling if it doesn’t fit your workflow is a genuinely low-risk way to find out for yourself.
Whichever way you lean, it costs nothing to try the free layer first. Our full tool overview lays out every free tefl.ai tool in one place, so you can see what’s already covered before deciding whether Cambridge-specific or bilingual features are worth €6 a month on top.
If you teach Cambridge exam classes, work with Spanish-speaking students, or want one paid account covering lesson planning, grading, and exam prep together, €6 a month is a reasonable price for a platform built by a working TEFL teacher. If you only need general lesson planning or materials support, the overlap with free tools is large enough that you may not need to pay at all.
Yes, in part. tefl.ai’s free tools cover several of the same jobs, including lesson planning, materials adaptation, and IELTS-style writing and speaking feedback, all without an account. TeflToday’s Cambridge-specific tools, gamified practice, and Spanish-bilingual phrasal verbs resource don’t have a direct free equivalent on our site.
TeflToday’s premium tier is €6 a month, and TeflToday says you can cancel anytime. Two resources, a C1 grammar guide and an English level test, are free regardless of subscription.
TeflToday was built by Ian L. Evans, who TeflToday describes as a TEFL teacher with more than 10 years of classroom experience in Spain. It reads as an indie, teacher-built product rather than a large SaaS platform.
No. tefl.ai’s core tools are free with no account required. TeflToday’s two free resources also require no payment; its other eight tools are behind the €6-a-month subscription. Many teachers reasonably use a mix of both depending on the task.

The past simple is the English verb form used for an action or state completed at a finished time in the past. Most verbs form it by adding -ed, while a closed set of common verbs change their form instead. It is the ordinary narrative form of English and the first past form most learners meet.
The present perfect is the English verb form made with have or has plus a past participle, used to link a past action to the present moment. It covers experience up to now, a situation that began in the past and still continues, and a past event whose result matters now. It never takes a finished time reference.
